Hi. Here in GB it's possible to buy mirrormounts that are actually mini-clamps, and that the mirror "arm" is UNthreaded. If THESE are available near you, then buy, and notch the mirror arm about a 1/2inch above the mount; thus like notched control levers, when it breaks you throw away the bottom bit and move the shortened arm down into the clamp.
